2013 – New Domain Extensions Get Their Keys
On October 22, 2013, ICANN announced that the first new gTLD registry operators had received access tokens to begin the delegation process.
The extensions included .онлайн (online), .сайт (website), .游戏 (game), and .شبكة (network).
The internet was preparing to become much more multilingual.
And domain investors were preparing to become much poorer.
2014 – Three Domain Extensions Sell for Nearly $13 Million
On October 22, 2014, ICANN held auctions for three new domain extensions:
.salon— $5,100,575.spot— $2,200,000.realty— $5,588,888
Total: $12,889,463.
And to think some domain investors still complain about paying $15 to renew a domain.
2024 – OOV.com: Three Letters, $400,000
On October 22, 2024, domain brokerage Saw.com publicly announced the sale of OOV.com for $400,000.
Just three letters. No dictionary word. No explanation required.
That’s approximately $133,333 per letter.
Suddenly, buying a 15-letter domain for $100 doesn’t seem like such a bargain.
Quote of the Day
“In domain investing, sometimes the fewer letters you own, the more zeros you can add to the price.”
Have a great day… and even better domain sales!
