I try to understand…

Buying a domain is easy.

Selling one is where the experiment begins.

After recently starting to acquire .si domain names, I decided to set myself a very simple goal:

Sell 10 .SI domains.

Not 1,000. Not €1 million in sales. Just ten completed transactions.

This page will document the experiment from the first listing to the tenth sale.

The Experiment

The rules are intentionally simple.

I will:

  • buy .si domains that I believe have resale potential;
  • focus mainly on generic words, commercial terms and names with possible end-user demand;
  • list them for sale where .si domains are supported;
  • experiment with different fixed prices and negotiation strategies;
  • record inquiries, offers and completed sales;
  • calculate the real profit after registration costs, renewal fees and marketplace commissions.

The experiment ends when 10 domains have been sold.

Why Only 10?

Because selling ten domains should teach me considerably more than registering another thousand.

Registrations tell you what you think has value.

Sales tell you what someone else is willing to pay for.

That distinction is rather important in domain investing.

And considerably more expensive to ignore.

What I Want to Learn

This is not only a sales challenge.

I want to understand which .si domains actually attract buyers.

For every sale, I will try to record:

Domain:
Purchase price:
Annual renewal:
Listing price:
Final sale price:
Marketplace:
Commission:
Holding period:
Buyer type:
Negotiation required: Yes / No
Net result:

Over time, ten real transactions should provide a small but useful dataset.

Pricing Will Be Part of the Experiment

One of the biggest questions is price.

Should a domain be listed at €299?

€499?

€999?

Or should I simply use Make Offer and see what happens?

Different domains may require different strategies, so I do not intend to force the entire portfolio into one pricing model.

The objective is not to prove that one price is universally correct.

The objective is to discover what actually produces sales.

The Scoreboard

Target: 10 sales

0 / 10 domains sold.

Total acquisition cost: €0 recorded
Gross sales: €0
Marketplace fees: €0
Net result: €0

I will update these numbers as the experiment progresses.

Sale #1

Waiting for the first buyer.

Every domain investor knows this particular stage very well.

The portfolio looks excellent.

The spreadsheet looks excellent.

The bank account remains strangely unimpressed.

What Happens After Sale #10?

Once the tenth .si domain is sold, I will publish the complete results:

which types of domains sold, how long they took to sell, what buyers paid, which pricing strategies worked and whether acquiring more .si domains makes economic sense for me.

Until then, this article remains unfinished.

Which is exactly the point.
