I try to understand…

This weekend, some of my wife’s relatives visited us, and an unexpected discussion began.

I argued that it is possible to earn an honest living, even if the honest path is usually slower and more difficult. They believed that when an opportunity appears, a certain amount of cleverness, manipulation, or “the end justifies the means” thinking may be necessary.

Domain investing became one of our examples.

My position was simple: there are enough legitimate domain names and potential buyers to build a modest business without cybersquatting, misleading people, exploiting trademarks, or becoming involved in questionable deals.

Perhaps it will never make me extremely rich. But a careful and honest process may provide bread and butter for many years and allow me to sleep peacefully.

The Experiment

The purpose of this LAB experiment is to find the shortest, clearest, and most honest path from buying a domain name to completing a legitimate sale.

The basic stages appear simple:

  1. Buy a domain name
Select it carefully, pay for it legally, and save the invoice and registration records.
  2. Keep complete documentation
Record the purchase price, renewal costs, registrar fees, and any other expenses.
  3. Find a potential buyer
Use marketplaces, direct enquiries, research, or professional communication without pressure, deception, or trademark targeting.
  4. Agree on a price
Negotiate openly and make sure both sides understand the transaction.
  5. Complete the sale
Use a secure payment or escrow method and transfer the domain correctly.
  6. Save the sales documents
Keep the invoice, payment confirmation, transfer records, platform fees, and correspondence.
  7. Declare the transaction correctly
Record the income, expenses, VAT treatment, and taxes according to the company’s legal obligations.
  8. Review the result
Calculate the real profit not only the difference between the purchase and sale prices, but also renewals, commissions, taxes, and time.

Where We Are Now

For the moment, the experiment cannot properly begin.

Pavel Domains has been created, but we are still waiting for the company’s VAT identification number. Before buying and selling domains professionally, I want the administrative and accounting foundation to be correct.

This article will therefore grow step by step.

Each new stage will be added with real invoices, real expenses, real negotiations, real mistakes, and (hopefully) real sales.

The goal is not to prove that domain investing is easy.

The goal is to discover whether it can be done correctly, honestly, and sustainably.
