The ‏.إختبار‎ domain extension is not a commercial TLD and not a country-code domain. It is one of the most historically important experimental IDN top-level domains: an Arabic-script version of “.test,” created to help the internet move beyond Latin-only domain endings.

Overview

‏.إختبار‎ was part of ICANN’s early Internationalized Domain Name testing program. Its meaning is “test” in Arabic, and its technical DNS form is XN–KGBECHTV.

The purpose of ‏.إختبار‎ was simple but powerful: to test whether a full domain name could work in a local script, not only before the dot, but also after the dot.

Before IDN TLDs, users could sometimes register internationalized second-level names, but the extension itself still usually appeared in Latin characters such as .com, .net, or .org. ‏.إختبار‎ helped prove that the entire domain experience could be multilingual.

Example concept:

مثال.إختبار

This represented “example.test” in Arabic script.

Registration Rules

‏.إختبار‎ is not open for public registration.

It was created for technical testing, evaluation, and community feedback, not for normal websites, brands, investors, or domain marketplaces. No commercial registrations, aftermarket sales, renewals, transfers, or public registry model exist for this TLD today.

In practical terms:

  • You cannot register ‏.إختبار‎ domains.
  • You cannot buy or sell ‏.إختبار‎ domains as normal domain assets.
  • It should be treated as a historical and technical IDN test extension.
  • Its importance is educational, not commercial.

Notable Facts

‏.إختبار‎ was one of the first test top-level domains that showed how Arabic could function at the highest level of the DNS.

It was part of a group of 11 experimental IDN TLDs covering scripts and languages such as Arabic, Persian, Chinese, Russian, Hindi, Greek, Korean, Yiddish, Japanese, and Tamil.

The extension used Punycode behind the scenes. While users saw ‏.إختبار‎, the DNS processed it as XN–KGBECHTV.

Its test period helped prepare the way for real IDN country-code TLDs and future multilingual domain extensions.

A small historical curiosity is the spelling: ‏إختبار‎ uses an initial hamza form, while modern everyday Arabic often writes the word as اختبار. This makes the extension even more interesting as a snapshot of early IDN experimentation.

Market Perspective

From a domain-investment point of view, ‏.إختبار‎ has no normal aftermarket.

There are no premium names, no public sales, no registrar pricing, and no investor liquidity. It is not a TLD where domainers can build a portfolio.

However, its market relevance is indirect. ‏.إختبار‎ helped open the door to a broader idea: domain names should not belong only to Latin-script users. For Arabic speakers, IDNs represent identity, accessibility, and language equality on the internet.

The value of ‏.إختبار‎ is therefore not in sales reports, but in what it made possible.

Why ‏.إختبار‎ Has Value

‏.إختبار‎ has value because it belongs to the history of a multilingual internet.

It reminds us that domain names are not only technical labels. They are also cultural signs. For millions of Arabic-speaking users, a domain written fully in Arabic feels more natural, more readable, and more connected to everyday language.

Even though ‏.إختبار‎ itself is not available for registration, it helped prove that Arabic-script TLDs could work in the global DNS. That experiment helped shape the future of IDNs and encouraged the creation of real internationalized extensions.

For domain investors, ‏.إختبار‎ is a lesson: sometimes the most important domain extensions are not the ones we can buy, but the ones that changed what became possible.

“Knowledge is a light.”

In the story of ‏.إختبار‎, that light was the testing of a more inclusive internet.
